…American breakthrough hit: I’ve always liked that song, especially since I’ve learned its backstory. (Gary Kemp reportedly wrote the song after Altered Images singer Clare Grogan broke off their budding relationship in favor of her band’s new drummer Stephen Lironi, to whom she’s still married. Honestly, if I’d been dumped by Clare Grogan, I’d be pretty bummed about it too.)
