I changed my name on my LinkedIn to just show the initial of my last name, for safety reasons. This could be a good workaround for you, as a stopgap. Still stinks that you need to do it though.

But do update everything. I remember when I changed my name years ago, I didn't take care of a few final things (like my SS card) and it was a huge pain in the butt to do it later on.
