I know. One thing no one discusses publicly (to my knowledge) is the challenge this presents for us parents. This has never happened before. We want to be accepting and loving, and also, we have a different vantage point, so we know the decisions we make as kids--especially decisions that have social equity with peers--don't always stick.
That was the balance I was aiming for in this article. Hopefully the wisdom of watching loads of gender-creative kids pass from middle to high school over these past 2.5 years has given me a bit of wisdom to pass along.
I'm always happy to discuss this subject. Maybe if there are enough of us parents who want to write about it, I'll form a group. :)
