Emotional annihilation aside, he also financially shot me out of the sky. We had been living in New York for a few years, both struggling to make ends meet while working in the film industry and my mom had been gracious enough to co-sign our lease as a guarantor. So, when he disappeared, I was left footing the full rent for our two-bedroom with zero warning, savings, or support. Yes, it was a major asshole move but, legally, he owed me nothing.
