I’m likewise new and likewise finding this process surprisingly convoluted. Shouldn’t the whole “approve as writer” process just occur when you submit an article—in a uniform way across all publications? Obviously if you submit a piece, you want to be a writer.

Also, publications are super hard to find, and the owners/editors are unpaid. I’m considering starting one but am having a hard time seeing the upside to all that extra work for no money. Shouldn’t the publication get a piece of the funding if they’re driving views via on-site and marketing placements?

Medium has some shit to sort out, that much is clear. 🤷🏽‍♀️
