In Praise of 100 Medium Followers

100! For Medium newbies, it’s truly the magic number.

And tonight, I’ve crossed that threshold (now at 107 and counting). My Medium Partner Program application is in!

It’s all very exciting.

Want to hear how I did it?

It was a simple three-step process:

1) I wrote a five articles I feel really good about. I learn by doing, and so going through the process made me feel confident Medium is the right platform for me. Knowing I had strong content pieces out there also made me more confident for steps two and three.

2) I read a ton of articles by other Medium authors. I also liked/highlighted/commented/followed many of them. I found the 1oo Followers tag and super engaged there, as everyone posting to that tag is new and ready to engage.

Through identifying articles I liked, I found publications where they appeared, and liked those too. I even contacted an editor for one of them – and she published me!

3) I hit up all my channels. I posted articles to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I emailed my family and friends and asked them to join Medium and follow me. Once I hit 90 tonight, I posted to Facebook and did a final countdown to get my friends to push me over the 100 finish line

It was exciting! And it worked.

I want you all to know how excellent hitting 100 followers feels. So drop me a comment below and we can trade likes! Let’s all support one another.

Because as good as hitting the 100 milestone feels, you know what will feel better?

Monetization. Awwww yeah!
